Hands on a car steering wheel inside a clean cabin

Cabin mould starts in 48 hours. Here’s how to stop it

A wet umbrella on the floor, damp shoes in the footwell, a window left open a crack in the rain. During the monsoon that’s all it takes: in a closed, humid cabin, mould can start establishing itself in fabric and carpet within about two days.

Early warning signs

  • A musty smell when you first open the door, especially in the morning
  • White or grey spotting on seat fabric, seat belts, or under floor mats
  • Damp carpet under the mats that never seems to dry out
  • A stale smell from the AC vents when the fan starts

What you can do day to day

  • Keep wet umbrellas and shoes in a waterproof bag or tray
  • Lift and dry floor mats after rainy days
  • Run the AC (not just the fan) for a few minutes to dehumidify the cabin
  • Park with windows fully closed, and fix any leaking door or sunroof seals

When to call in a professional

Once you can smell it or see it, surface wiping won’t reach the spores in the fibres. Our interior steam sanitization uses dry, high-temperature steam to kill mould, bacteria, and allergens deep in seats, carpets, and vents, followed by a thorough deep clean, without soaking the cabin.
